Often, people have worked hard to tackle problems on their own, but sometimes they need additional support to get through difficult times, such as an illness or a rocky period in a relationship. Therapy helps hone coping abilities to get through a short-term challenge or make long-term changes. My goal is to help clients improve their lives, work toward their long-term goals, and build healthier relationships. I work with people who experience anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, problems in relationships, and those who are working on improving their physical health. I also specialize in working with individuals dealing with the stress of cardiologic issues, as well as cancer and blood disorders.
I utilize a variety of psychological techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and psychodynamic psychotherapy to help clients gain control over the stressors in their lives, and provide specific tools that are tailored to everyone’s individual needs. When working with clients, I take their lead, and I work to understand what has brought them to this point so I can provide strategies for change that can be implemented in their everyday lives.
When I begin with a client, my first goal is to listen to what you have been through, and understand where you want to go. By deeply understanding your viewpoint, I am better able to provide insights and coping strategies to build on the work you have already done. I take an integrative approach, including how mental health, physical health, and important life events all impact you. In the past 10 years since earning my doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Tennessee, I have worked in numerous settings that include inpatient and outpatient psychological care, as well as integrated care within medical settings. Wherever you want to go, we can get there together!
In addition to my work, I enjoy taking advantage of living in the New York area, including spending time in Central Park, going to museums, and seeing plays and concerts.
