Amy Vigliotti, Ph.D

Amy Vigliotti, Ph.DI founded SelfWorks for many reasons – my love of therapy, the benefits of collaboration with talented professionals, and the immediate need for a comprehensive center where clients can receive top-notch mental health care in a private practice setting.
Therapy with me is active, supportive and collaborative. I work with children, adolescents, adults and families, using psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and/or mindfulness strategies. My clients get the added support of our in-house “therapy” dog, Zilla. She is readily available for snuggles and belly rubs! I work with clients across the lifespan on therapeutic issues including mood, anxiety, divorce, trauma, bereavement, chronic illness, developmental delays, careers, and relationships. I specialize in treating individuals who want to thrive after upsetting/confusing events in their lives. I also provide supervision and consultation to early career mental health professionals, at SelfWorks and through my adjunct faculty position at Adelphi University.

When I am not in the office, I am facilitating workshops in mindfulness and healthy living, with my CD, Unwind: Guided Relaxation. I also lead community workshops to promote self-esteem and healthy peer relationships in children and adolescents. This work stems back to my own school days, when my poem, “I Am,” was published in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. “I Am” is used in the educational curriculum at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth and has sparked resiliency in thousands of young readers.

Before entering private practice full-time, I led a program for traumatized youth at the Child Advocacy Center at Jacobi Medical Center from 2010-2015. I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Adelphi University, Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies, in Garden City, N.Y, and my post-doctoral certificate in interpersonal therapy from The White Institute, N.Y.C. My most recent publications have focused on the topic of thriving after adversity. I am a professional affiliate of the American Psychological Association, National Association for Poetry Therapy, and New York State Psychological Association, as well as a Peer Reviewer for Psychology of Women Quarterly.

Under the curse of my treatment I was able to ask for various skills to accommodate my current needs. Overall, Dr. Vigliotti is a thoughtful therapist who genuinely cared about my experience.
