I am a therapist with a wide-range of experience helping children, adolescents and adults work through life’s difficulties. Whether it is loss or trauma, conflicts in relationships, parent-child challenges, school or work problems, or difficulty with earning and spending, I use an engaging, direct, playful and interactive approach to help people clarify problems, learn and apply strategies to minimize negative thoughts and behaviors, and cope more fully and effectively with painful emotions.
I specialize in helping kids, teens and adults develop and maintain healthy family, friend and partner relationships, increase their school and work success, find the right career path and create a healthy work/life balance, let go of old and unfulfilling behaviors and beliefs, and sync up their core values with their day-to-day life on the ground.
Over the course of my career I have worked in a variety of contexts, from private practice to schools to state psychiatric hospitals, which has given me a broad knowledge base spanning psychiatric symptomology and diagnosis, neuropsychology, 12-step work, DBT and mindfulness practices, and developmental, cognitive, existential and psychoanalytic theories of human experience.
In sessions, I prioritize humor and warmth, while drawing primarily from psychodynamic, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. A core element of my work is nurturing healthy self-reflection, so that problematic patterns loosen and become less likely to recur in the future. At times, this may require delving into past experiences to find the root of chronic challenges such as depression, anxiety, anger, obsessive thinking, difficulty with attention, and problems with intimacy.
Throughout my work with people across ethnic, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds, I have seen that the work and experience of psychotherapy can increase the ability to live more fully and authentically, as well as allow people to be free of distressing symptoms and patterns that have seemed previously intractable. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to witness again and again people’s tremendous capacity for positive change through the creative process of psychotherapy.
