Alex Carmago Psy.D

Alex Camargo, Psy.DI take a warm, practical, and open approach to help my clients gain greater self-understanding, clarify their goals, and make the changes they seek. I incorporate cognitive-behavioral, psychoanalytic, existential, and mindfulness-based approaches into my work with adolescent and adult clients. I draw on this expertise to address therapeutic issues such as anxiety, mood, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorders, grief/bereavement, chronic illness, relationship problems, issues of identity and spiritual/existential crises.

I believe that the present is informed but not wholly determined by the past. As such, I help my clients develop both the insight and coping skills to break free from old and persistent patterns. I encourage clients to explore how their experiences, both past and present, influence behaviors, thoughts, relationships, and personal identity. This process facilitates symptom relief while also fostering a greater sense of emotional freedom, self-efficacy, strength, and meaning.

I am dually trained in Clinical Psychology and School Psychology. I received my doctorate and master’s degrees from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, and my bachelor’s degree from Yale University. I have worked in urban schools; hospitals; and low-income outpatient clinics, providing psychotherapy services to individuals across the lifespan and from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
